After almost joining Newcastle United in 2024, Marc Guehi looks set to be on the move in 2025.
The Crystal Palace defender is due to enter the final 12 months of his contract, and there are no plans for Marc Guehi to extend his stay at Selhurst Park.
Therefore, it is likely that the Eagles will cash in on the 24-year-old.
After missing out last summer, Newcastle are targeting Guehi again. They remain in the market for a right-sided centre-back, while the player they relentlessly chased last year it still available.
However, there is competition. Chelsea want Guehi too, with Enzo Maresca eager to bring in defensive reinforcements.
Marc Guehi’s most likely transfer destination
As the summer transfer window looms, it is Chelsea who are the favourites to land the England international.
That is according to TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Guehi’s future.
“I don’t see Marc Guehi joining Newcastle United, not from my understanding,” he said.
“I think he is still more likely to join Chelsea in the summer.”
Newcastle United scouting alternatives
Newcastle United could also miss out on Dean Huijsen – another centre-back who the Magpies are interested in.
Geordie Boot Boys understand that Liverpool are favourites to sign Huijsen, despite Newcastle holding talks with the 20-year-old’s representatives.
Eddie Howe is desperate to add a new right-sided centre-back to his squad, and Paul Mitchell is working hard behind the scenes to identify possible recruits.
“Newcastle are looking around, and their budget will be influenced by whether or not they are in the Champions League,” Bailey added.
“I do expect Newcastle to bring that right-sided defender in. They are doing their due diligence and work on targets as we speak. We will see what Paul Mitchell comes up with.
“They are looking at quite a few options, from my understanding. I still think someone like Ousmane Diomande at Sporting will be high up on their list. It’s not a new name. Newcastle have looked at him before and he ticks a lot of boxes.”
