Everyone seems adamant that Eddie Howe's side will win...

Newcastle United are massive favourites to beat Ipswich Town.

You will not find many people backing an upset here, as Ipswich Town travel to St James’ Park.

Gary Neville thinks Newcastle will win convincingly, and that sentiment is shared by Paul Merson.

Ipswich must beat Newcastle United to avoid relegation, and even that will not be enough to save them if West Ham draw with Brighton.

To make matters worse for Kieran McKenna’s side, they face a Toon team that are gunning for the Champions League. They have five more games to qualify, while they are looking to bounce back after losing 4-1 to Aston Villa.

Chris Sutton predicts Newcastle United vs Ipswich Town

Last week’s defeat was a humbling experience for Eddie Howe’s side, and Chris Sutton has told BBC Sport that he thinks the loss at Villa Park could make Newcastle United ‘angry’.

“It’s great news that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will be back in the dugout for this game after his stay in hospital,” he said.

“I don’t see his side having any trouble securing the three points here, based on what I saw from Ipswich against Arsenal last week. That was game just wasn’t a contest, even before Leif Davis was sent off.

“There is a lot at stake for the Magpies in the race for Champions League qualification, while it is just a matter of time until Ipswich’s relegation is confirmed.

“We might see some anger in Newcastle’s performance after their heavy defeat by Aston Villa but, ultimately, this should be a comfortable win for them.”

Whether Eddie Howe could change his Newcastle United starting XI

During Eddie Howe’s time away from first-team duties, Jason Tindall refrained from tinkering with Newcastle United’s starting lineup.

The Magpies have named the same starting XI for seven consecutive games, winning six of them.

Aston Villa brought that run to an end, as Newcastle ran out of steam.

Following last weekend’s performance, Howe might be tempted to tweak his starting lineup. However, a lack of genuine options makes that unlikely.

Up until the defeat at Villa Park, Newcastle’s defence had been settled. While Sven Botman is back in training, it is too soon for him to start. Elsewhere, bringing Emil Krafth into the side is not going to make a seismic difference.

It could be argued that Newcastle have the Premier League’s best midfield, so it is also difficult to envision Howe tweaking things in that area of the pitch.

The only area where Howe could make a change is in attack, but even that feels unlikely. While Anthony Gordon is fit and available, there is no reason to remove Harvey Barnes or Jacob Murphy from the side. Even in defeat, Barnes got another goal contribution against Villa, as he continued his excellent run of form.
