Eddie Howe has delivered a firm message on Lewis Miley’s Newcastle United future.
The 18-year-old has only made 16 senior appearances for Newcastle United this season. The start of his campaign was hindered by injury, while Lewis Miley has mainly been a substitute since his return to fitness.
This led to claims that Lewis Miley was attracting interest from elsewhere, with clubs in the Premier League and Germany keeping an eye on the midfielder’s situation.
Eddie Howe shuts down Lewis Miley rumour
While Miley may have admirers away from St James’ Park, Eddie Howe has absolutely no intention of letting the teenager leave the club.
Ahead of the Magpies’ game against Ipswich Town, the Newcastle United manager spoke to the media and was asked to give his thoughts on Miley’s future with the club.
“Lewis is absolutely pivotal to our future here,” he said.
“From my perspective, he is going absolutely nowhere. We want to build the team with him in it for many, many years. That is my thought process.”
Newcastle United have a decision to make with Lewis Miley
Howe has made it clear that Miley is going nowhere, which should come as no great surprise.
He is arguably the brightest young talent that Newcastle United possess, which is why Howe is adamant that Miley will have an extremely bright future in black and white.
However, a decision does need to be made this summer ahead of next season.
Howe must decide whether Miley remains at St James’ Park and acts as understudy to Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, or allow the youngster to leave on loan.
The former feels most likely, as Newcastle will need to rely on Miley more next season as European football returns to Tyneside.
18-year-old arrives at St James’ Park after £2m transfer
While Howe talks up the talents of one 18-year-old Newcastle United player, another has arrived at St James’ Park.
The Magpies have completed the signing of Baran Yildiz from Turkish side Genclerbirligi. The midfielder arrives for a fee of £2million, and has addressed his move to Tyneside via his official Instagram account.
Yildiz wrote on Instagram: “I am very happy that I have stepped into the Premier League, the biggest league in the world, where I have been following my dream of for years, with a wonderful club with roots and traditions like Newcastle United. I would like to thank my family, my teachers and my manager, my brother Batu Kaplan, our lawyer Anil Dinçer, my brother Rıza Köklü who have contributed greatly to making this dream of mine come true. This is a start and no one should doubt that I will work hard and represent my country and our flag the best way I can.”
The teenager has already made his debut for the Newcastle United Under-18s, while he was part of the Magpies’ Under-19s side that recently competed in the Dallas Cup. Yildiz played alongside fellow new signing Kyle Fitzgerald and Miley’s younger brother Mason.
