Will Newcastle United sign Liam Delap? ✍️

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has spoken out about Liam Delap amid interest from the Magpies.

They face Ipswich Town at St James’ Park on Saturday, in a game that will see Liam Delap compete against one of the clubs that are trying to sign him this summer.

It has been reported that Newcastle United are interested in Liam Delap, as Eddie Howe eyes attacking reinforcements.

The 22-year-old will be available for £30million once Ipswich’s relegation is confirmed, and he is a man in demand after impressing in a struggling side.

Some Newcastle fans do not think Delap will want to join and act as backup to Alexander Isak, but the Magpies have a plan to counteract that. It has been reported that Newcastle think Delap and Isak can play together.

Eddie Howe delivers Liam Delap verdict amid Newcastle United interest

While Newcastle are already having ideas regarding how Delap could fit in at St James’ Park, Eddie Howe’s priority is nullifying him.

The Newcastle United manager has spoken about Delap ahead of facing Ipswich Town, with Howe admitting that he has been really impressed with the 12-goal forward.

“He’s a pivotal player for them,” he said.

“There is no denying that. He’s had a very good season.

“He’s got big strengths. Very strong, powerful runner. Knows where the goal is. He’s had a really good season. He’s always had a lot of potential. You could see from the very early times we’ve played against him previously what a threat he can be.”

Newcastle United striker target heading elsewhere

Delap is not the only striker that Toon officials are taking a look at ahead of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle are interested in Jonathan David. He is a tantalising option, given how gifted he is and the fact he is going to be available on a free transfer.

In the era of PSR, getting a player of David’s calibre on a free is an absolute no-brainer. However, it does not look like the Magpies will be able to pull a deal off.

According to the Telegraph, David is unlikely to move to Newcastle United this summer.

In terms of other targets, Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains on Newcastle’s radar. He is another player who is on course to become a free agent.
